Present Ray a problem, and he’ll present a solution. The versatile Operations Manager oversees everything in the Westerlay greenhouses and offices, from expanding the retail sales floor to safety training and developing a model accounting system for fertilizers and pesticides used to grow millions of orchids each year. Ray oversees personnel decisions for operations and in general embraces his role of grasping all parts of production to ensure smooth, efficient work.
Ray’s career began more than two decades ago in the electronics industry loading trucks. Since then, he has climbed rung-by-rung through all levels of electronics manufacturing culminating in supervising manufacturing at Seymour Duncan, a maker of electric guitar pickups. He’s made the most of every ounce of his experiences in becoming a space master of pragmatic decision-making at Westerlay. Outside of the workplace, Ray’s a new empty nester who can be found camping or saddled up on bicycle. At work, he reports to the many public agencies that regulate agriculture and has impressed regulators with impeccable accounting to the extent that Westerlay’s system has become an example of how to do things right.
